Barcelona Book Market

During Barcelona's Book Market, numerous stalls selling antique and second-hand books take over the exquisite Passeig de Gràcia.

Who knows, this could be the place to find that much sought-after edition of Cervantes' Don Quixote, or just a book for the beach. Not all books are in Catalan - there are foreign titles as well as comics and prints.

While Catalans may not be avid newspaper readers, they do manage to find time for literature, or at least on one day of the year. The people of Barcelona still maintain the long-established tradition of giving books to loved ones on Saint George's Day, usually accompanied by a rose.

While Saint George's Day is a long way off and it is not always that easy to find a book to your liking, this market is a perfect excuse for a leisurely stroll in Barcelona's Eixample district.

When: 19 Sep - 5 Oct 2008 (annual)
Where: Passeig de Gràcia
