Nicolas de Staël at La Pedrera

Born in Saint Petersburg, trained as an artist in Belgian, and a French citizen, Nicolas de Staël was one of the fundamental abstract artists of the 20th century. From 1942 until he committed suicide in 1955 he produced more than a thousand paintings.
Sixty oils by this artist are now on exhibition at La Pedrera. From abstract art in the 40s, the artist moved to figures and landscapes, with his work, in part inspired by Matisse, using colour as a main feature.
